The lightning-fast game for TOPdesk fans!

Welcome to TOPple!

With TOPple, we want to thank you for our collaboration in 2024 and wish you happy holidays. We hope you and your colleagues have lots of fun playing it!

What is TOPple?

TOPple is a card game with 55 cards, each featuring 8 different images. When you compare two cards, there is always exactly one identical image between them. Your challenge is to spot that image first! Ready for a game full of excitement, laughter, and friendly competition? Check out the rules below and jump straight into the game!

Wishing you lots of fun and happy holidays!

The basic rules

TOPple is a versatile game with multiple variations, but the core is always about finding matching symbols. Each card has 8 symbols, and exactly one symbol matches in both color and shape between two cards (although the symbols may differ in size). Here’s how to play:

  1. Setting up the cards
Shuffle the cards and place them in a stack. Give each player 1 card face down. Place the remaining cards face up in a stack in the center of the table.
  2. Starting the game
Give a starting signal, for example, by shouting “TOPple!” Then, all players turn their cards face up. Everyone searches simultaneously for the one symbol that matches between the central card and their own card.
  3. Taking action
When you find a match, slap your hand on the table and call out the matching symbol.
Note: If you slap but cannot name the match, you are out for that round. You may rejoin when the next card is placed in the center.
  4. The next round
The player who slaps first and correctly names the matching symbol takes the top card from the central stack and places it in front of them as their new card. This reveals a new card on the central stack for the next round.
  5. Winner
The game continues until all cards from the central stack have been distributed. The player with the most cards wins.

In case of doubt

If multiple players spot a match at the same time, the winner is the one who performs the required action(s) first, such as placing or taking a card, depending on the agreed rules. For example, if you’re playing by the basic rules, the winner is the player who slaps the table first and correctly calls out the matching symbol.

Tiebreaker

If there’s a tie at the end of the game, hold a quick duel: each tied player gets one card and flips it over. The first to correctly name the common symbol wins. If you’re playing with more than two players, you can alternate rounds with a quick TOPple challenge like “Escalation Sequence.”

End of the game

The winner is the player who has made the most matches and thus collected the most cards, or the one who is the first to get rid of all their cards. For a more competitive atmosphere, you can introduce a point system at the end to track the final score.

TOPple Challenges

With TOPple, you can do various fast-paced challenges where all players compete at the same time. Choose to play them in the order described below or repeat your favorites. The most important thing is that everyone has fun! Be sure to read the rules for each round of the selected challenge to avoid confusion. Play a practice round if necessary.

Challenge #1

Solve the incident stack

Setup
Distribute all the cards evenly among the players. Place the last card face up in the center of the table. Each player shuffles their stack of cards and places it face down in front of them.

Objective
Be the first to get rid of all your cards.

How to Play
At the start of the round, all players flip their card stacks over. Then, you must quickly play your cards by placing one from your stack on the central card as soon as you find and name the matching symbol. Since the central card changes each time another player places a card, you’ll need to react fast.

The Loser
The player who is last to get rid of all their cards loses the challenge.

Challenge #2

Escalation Sequence

Setup
At the start of each round, give each player one face-down card without looking at it. Set aside the remaining cards for the following rounds.

Objective
Be quicker than the others to pass your card and get rid of your cards.

How to Play
All players flip their cards over at the same time, ensuring all symbols are visible. If you spot and name an identical symbol on another player’s card, you may place your card on top of theirs. That player must now try to find a matching symbol between their new card and the other players’ cards. If they succeed, they may pass all their cards at once.

The Loser
The player who ends up with cards left at the end of the round loses and places their cards in front of them. You can play as many rounds as you like (at least 5). When the stack runs out, the game ends. The player who has collected the most cards during this mini-game loses.
